&lt;p&gt;This photo does no justice to the majesty of these two lights. The distance reached by them is only comprehensible when you see them in person, no matter where you are in New York City.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;To be honest, I never felt anything about 9/11 until I moved here, and started working for a photographer who photographed both the construction and destruction of the twin towers. I had no personal connections to the disaster.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;But now, hearing his stories, and having his photographs from that day bring me to tears, and seeing these lights tower higher than any building could ever reach, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of respect and remorse for a tragedy I was fortunate enough to miss out on.&lt;/p&gt;
